Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ camera blur issue is frustrating users

In the new Galaxy S23 series, only the Galaxy S23 Ultra received updates to the rear camera setup. The Galaxy S23 and S23+ feature the same setup as the Galaxy S22 and S22+, but this time photos from the main rear camera seem to have a blurry issue that frustrates many users.

Not all parts of the images you capture may be as sharp as you expect

It seems that the 50MP rear camera on the Galaxy S23 and S23+ has trouble keeping the entire scene in focus. Users report that while the center of the scene looks sharp and focused as you’d expect, photos are blurry on the sides and edges.

The issue appears to affect Galaxy S23 and S23+ units manufactured in Vietnam. We were able to reproduce it with photos of documents and text but not otherwise, and our units were manufactured in India.

Here are some examples collected by people at notebook check:

The country of origin and manufacture does not usually affect camera quality, so it could be that this is just an issue that affects some units and not others. In fact, according to some users, this was also a problem with the Galaxy S22 series, but it was not reported at the time, and apparently sending the phone in for repair is the only way to solve the problem.

The Ultra models, meanwhile, are not affected at all, no doubt because they have a different camera setup and because of their position at the top of the food chain, so to speak, in the entire Samsung flagship line, foldables included.

We’ve reached out to Samsung for more details on this matter and will update the article when we hear back. For now, we suggest waiting for official information from Samsung before taking further steps, such as resetting your phone, which does not resolve the issue. And to get around the blur, try manually focusing by tapping the screen before taking a photo.
