Raccoons in Wuhan emerge as possible Covid source, new data show

The World Health Organization urged China to fully share genetic data that can help discern the origins of Covid-19 after it briefly appeared in an international database.

A new analysis of samples collected in January 2020 at a wet market in Wuhan, where the first human infections were detected, found evidence of the virus along with large amounts of raccoon genetic material, according to Atlantic Ocean. The underlying data from Chinese researchers, which some outside experts said supported the idea that the virus spilled over from animals in the market, was subsequently removed.
