ELLOREE, SC — The Elloree Business Association is launching a new farmers market in town, giving local farmers a platform to showcase their wares.
“There’s a big farming community here and there has been for generations,” Elloree Business Association board member Leslie Marshall said.
From strawberries to tomatoes, many of these crops are locally grown. In the summer, they plan to sell fruits such as watermelon and cantaloupe.
“We are delighted that we will see foot traffic here on Cleveland Street here in Elloree and that will help all the traders and we will see more and more every week as it comes and as the months go on,” said EBA member Kristie Andersen.
Bonnie Friersen often visits Elloree from the neighboring town of Santee and stopped by for green beans, strawberries and onions.
“They told us about the farmer’s market and I wanted to get started,” Friersen said.
She says it’s a way for people to see what the city has to offer.
“This community is really starting to grow and we need things like this, people to support us. I mean it’s so important. It’s a small town and it’s really starting to pop,” Friersen said.
The Farmer’s Market is open on W. Cleveland Street in Elloree on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m
